Weather and climate change research

With COPA 26 event now closed in Glasgow Scotland the United Kingdom, climate change is reality and it’s happening now. The world including Nigeria is warming up, global sea level is rising, and types of extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and more severe. These changes have already resulted in a wide range of impacts across every region of the country and many sectors of the economy. Nigeria needs reliable scientific information about current and future changes, impacts, and effective response options. In this context, Bowalds Innovation HUB is working on weather and climate information to provide information in advance to the farmers as well as vulnerable peoples. This information will help to vulnerable peoples to save from natural disasters and small/poor farmers to make better decisions in the short and long term adapt to changing growing conditions. There are many climate variables that impact on the productivity of crops including: water availability, solar radiation, temperature, day length, local conditions, past history, future trends etc.

Agriculture and food security

The link between Produced Water, wastes and disposals and Agricultural systems that wisely use climate information can help to make better informed decisions at policy, institutional and community levels that improves the efficient use of limited resources, and increases crop by reducing impacts of climate risks and enhancing opportunities. As a result, local communities are able to enhance resiliency, increase incomes. Our aims to provide weather and climate information to food security for vulnerable populations ensure improved livelihoods for smallholder farmers. Our successes are rooted in technical services and innovative approaches. We are very much keen to provide technical support and related services to connect rural farmers with crop insurance and supported local agriculture farmers/farm to guide sustainable improvements throughout the sector.

Disaster risk reduction

Climate change has come to unravel the risks associated with human existence, natural disaster is gradually increasing with its frequency and intensity all over the globe due to global warming and climate change. Disaster risk reduction is the concept and practice of reducing disaster risks through systematic efforts to analyze and reduce the causal factors of disasters. Bowalds Innovation HUB has its aims to reduce socio-economic vulnerabilities to disaster as well as dealing with the environmental and other hazards that trigger them. It is engaged to reduce exposure to hazards, lessening vulnerability of people and property, wise management of 4 land and the environment, and improving preparedness and early warning to reduce adverse impact of natural disaster and extreme events for the sustainable development of the society.

Clean and Green Energy

All energy sources have some impact on our environment. Fossil fuels—coal, oil, and natural gas—do substantially more harm than renewable energy sources by most measures, including air and water pollution, damage to public health, wildlife and habitat loss, water use, land use, and global warming emissions. However, renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, and hydropower also have environmental impacts, some of which are significant. The exact type and intensity of environmental impacts varies depending on the specific technology used, the geographic location, and a number of other factors. By understanding the current and potential environmental issues associated with each renewable energy source, we can takes steps to effectively avoid or minimize these impacts as they become a larger portion of our electric supply.

Bowalds Innovation HUB aim is to meet the needs of our clients and to help build a cleaner environment for the future. We continue to work closely with our customers to provide affordable eco-efficient energy solutions. We develop integrated solutions also. Our future plan is to assist power generation Company to generate electricity more efficiently and economically by precise environmental factor induced load calculation.

Clean and Green Economy

Climate and Health

Widespread scientific consensus exists that the world’s climate is changing. Some of these changes will likely include more variable weather, heat waves, heavy precipitation events, flooding, droughts, more intense storms, sea level rise, and air pollution. Each of these impacts could negatively affect public health. While climate change is a global issue, the effects of climate change will vary across geographic regions and populations. Bowalds Innovation HUB Climate and Health Program will help the country for the specific health impacts of climate change that the communities will face.

Water and Waste resource management

Oil and gas production, Produced Water management activities and the wastes therein has become an opportunity and risk for our world especially the Agricultural sector. Water is a key driver of economic and social development while it also has a basic function in maintaining the integrity of the natural environment. However water is only one of a number of vital natural resources and it is imperative that water issues are not considered in isolation. The traditional fragmented approach is no longer viable and a more holistic approach to water management is essential. Our experience enables us to assist our clients in developing strategies to address a broad spectrum of operational, management, financial and economic challenges.

Our professionals are focused on assisting our clients in developing strategies to address the complex needs associated with this dynamic industry. From rural water to large urban water and wastewater utilities, Bowalds Innovation HUB can offer innovative management strategies that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our clients’ organization to the benefit of their customer base.

Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing

A geographic information system (GIS) is a framework for gathering, managing, and analyzing data. GIS integrates many types of data. It analyzes spatial location and organizes layers of information into visualizations using maps. GIS manages location-based information and provides tools for display and analysis of various statistics, including population characteristics, economic development opportunities, and vegetation types-helping users make smarter decisions.

Remote sensing is the art and science of making measurements of the earth using sensors on airplanes or satellites. These sensors collect data in the form of images and provide specialized capabilities for manipulating, analyzing, and visualizing those images. Remote sensed imagery is integrated within a GIS.

Our partnership with global authorities in Africa and globally provides us enabling access to services in satellite image processing, geo-referencing and map preparation, land use, flood coverage, disaster monitoring and damage assessment etc.

Capacity Development

Bowalds Innovation HUB aims to develop the capacity of climate information and products relevant to their concerns, thus all aspects of Bowalds service offerings. include capacity development, youth empowerment, women empowerment. Capacity development is the process through which individuals, organizations and societies obtain, strengthen and maintain the capabilities to set and achieve their own development objectives over time.

Research & development and training

Bowalds Innovation HUB focuses on research in the weather, climate and social-development intervention services are instrumental to the development of significant policy at State and federal level. Our research capabilities and report has supported the development of effective climate information and poverty eradication advisory services for farmers and less privileged with climate-informed safety net interventions. These resilience-building services provide an enabling environment for smallholder farmers to transition towards more climate-smart production systems and climate-resilient livelihood strategies, while protecting them from climatic extremes. Research develops the knowledge, methods, capacity, and evidence needed to design, target and implement these interventions effectively at scale. Research at the cutting edge of science and technology requires a special blend of organizational design, human resource management, and institutional strategy.

Bowalds Innovation HUB organizes the trainings to professionals, youths, women and entrepreneurs of different organization/agency in the field of climate change, water resources, environment, GIS and RS. It also provides a scope for internship to different level of university students across Nigeria.
