John Gregory

John joined the oil and gas industry in 1969 and has worked in the exploration and production business for 45 years. He spent over 33 years with major oil and gas companies in a variety of technical and leadership roles ranging from petroleum engineering, field development, asset management and technology development – latterly as VP Petroleum Engineering for BG Group.

During this time he lived and worked in the UK, the Middle East and the US as well as gaining experience of doing business with major and government owned E&P companies in a variety of countries.

In 2003 he co-founded and was appointed director of an independent oil and gas company (Focus Energy) established to build a portfolio of North Sea development and producing assets. The company participated successfully in the UK’s 21st – 25th license rounds and gained interests in UKCS blocks that contained marginal heavy oil and gas discoveries. It participated in the technical evaluation, promotion and successful farmdown of a heavy oil field while establishing strong links with the financial community, service vendors and DECC.

In parallel to this and as an associate of Ingen Ideas (a process engineering consultancy) John has managed several sub-surface, flow assurance, field development concept, asset management and asset evaluation studies for primarily small to medium sized independent oil and gas companies operating in the North Sea.

John is also an advisor to First Reserve Corporation.
