Recruitment, Training, Development & Mentoring
The effective management of lifecycle technical safety and risk is one of the first priorities in any energy project. Production facilities and renewables sites are usually complex and located in unique environments that are almost always hostile with potential for health and safety issues, negative environmental impact or loss-making downtime. The ability to predict and then prevent or mitigate undesirable events is probably the single most important factor in achieving business success in the energy industry.
This approach to risk assessment provides a pictorial representation of the interaction between the causes (or threats) of an accidental event, its consequences, and the barriers in place to prevent, mitigate, control or recover. Bowalds Energy has the capability and experience to:
- Facilitate Bowtie workshops
- Develop and use Bowties methodology to identify barriers and map the barriers to safety management systems
The technical safety and risk team at Bowalds Energy works hand-in-hand with our global consultants from other disciplines to ensure that effective risk management is a key feature of all projects throughout the lifecycle of the asset, from initial concept through full-scale production and decommissioning.
Bowalds Energy has the capacity to deploy the following Hazards and Effects Management tools and techniques at specific phases of any project:
- Hazard Identification (HAZID)
- Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) Studies
- Qualititative Risk Assessment using BowtieXP
- Major Accident Hazard Risk Assessment
- Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) Assessment and Verification
- Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
Hazard Identification is the most important step in a risk assessment as it provides vital input to the development of plans for robust hazard management and control. Bowalds Energy provides chairing and scribing resources for formal safety review workshops.
QRA is used as a means of supporting the demonstration that the risks to personnel on new or existing installation, or during the design process are as low as reasonably practicable. Bowalds Energy expertise in QRA can be deployed at various stages of an installation life cycle to gain insight into the relative importance of hazards and safeguards, help evaluate measures to further reduce risks, and where required provide cost benefit analysis of risk mitigation measures.
Bowalds Energy employs integrated Excel based software tools developed in-house to undertake QRA. These tools can be applied generically or tailored to clients’ specific needs and operating environments.
The QRA services we provide cover a broad range of major hazards often encountered in the oil and gas industry. This includes:
- Hydrocarbon fire and explosion hazards
- Dropped objects from cranes and drilling operations
- Helicopter operations and collisions
- Ship collisions
- Marine hazards such as loss of stability
- Simultaneous and combined operations hazards
Bowalds Energy consultants have vast experience of developing HSE Cases using Norwegian AOC, UK, and the IADC approaches for onshore and offshore critical installations. We develop HSE Cases for new and existing installations across different geographical locations. We offer HSE Case maintenance service helping to ensure that this vital safety demonstration document is updated regularly for on-going compliance with regulations and standards, and accurately reflect the status of your installation and operations.
One major challenge in the oil and gas industry, particularly for owners of aging installations is the continued integrity assurance of their assets while minimising downtime. Our consultants have proven track record of assisting clients to identify minimum safety critical maintenance requirements, prioritise maintenance and repair of essential systems, and improve upon overall asset operational efficiency.
In our approach to providing cutting edge asset management deliverables, the following industry proven tools and techniques are available to support clients’ decision making processes:
- Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
- Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM)
- Functional Safety Engineering for Safety Instrumented System
Bowalds Energy is able to supply TUV certified engineers with working knowledge of safety instrumented systems and experience in chairing Safety Integrity Function Assessments and Layer of Protection Analysis, and undertaking Safety Integrity Level verification.
The Verification and Compliance services entail provision of third party independent verification of new plants, verification of major modification of existing installation or on-going verification of operating assets. Because we have a network of very experienced and qualified associates who have worked for international reputable classification societies we are able to provide high value advice and guidance on compliance with classification rules and standards.
The following processes can be executed, for the purposes of providing the necessary corporate assurance on the state of existing and new facilities:
- Process Safety Audit
- Technical Due Diligence
- Verification
We help our clients understand every technical, commercial & legal information about a prospective business or business partner for the purposes of making informed commercial / investment decisions.
Investors looking to get into the oil and gas industry but with limited understanding of associated safety and risk require a sound basis to support their investment decision and to demonstrate to themselves and their stakeholders that there investment are safe.
